Arbitration Committee - July 2012 Newsletter
Published: July 17th, 2012

FRASER MINE

Grievances are increasing on all issues, especially embedded contractors – skilled trades postings and P&M postings.  We, as a Union feel that harassment complaints are on the rise and dealing with each and everyone.  Morale is very poor.

NICKEL RIM SOUTH

Embedded contractors procedures are still a big problem.  The company has still not approached us about the shift schedule, therefore it is status quo.  The grievances are also piling up and we are dealing with each and every one of them as best as we can.  Morale is very poor.

SMELTER

The shut down at the Smelter has not been good concerning safety, especially with contractors.  Since the production seems to be right on track, the worker’s are solid in their jobs.  Embedded contractor’s and contracting out is still a big problem.

STRATHCONA MILL

Embedded contractors and contracting out are a major problem at the Mill and if you see any issues with this, please report it to the Chief Steward immediately.  Welder postings are still not resolved and as a result, there are more grievances.

SKILLED TRADES

July 9th, 2012 meeting was the same.  The company says that they will get back to us.  The Union is very aware that there are many major concerns even with the hiring of skilled trades workers.
