Local 598/CAW is holding two important meetings for all leadership and membership working at Xstrata Nickel. This also includes all laid-off Xstrata Nickel workers who belong to Local 598.

Tentative Collective Agreement has been reached
The bargaining committee has fought long and hard in the past 48 hours in an effort to reach a fair and equitable Collective Agreement with Xstrata Nickel Sudbury Division. We are pleased to announce that a tentative collective agreement has been reached.

Press Conference - Jan 31st @ 3 pm
The CAW will provide an update on negotiations with Xstrata this afternoon at a 3 p.m. press conference at the Radisson Hotel in Sudbury.

As we approach the Sunday midnight deadline, there are many issues that have yet to be resolved. We have been talking non stop since very early this morning and plan on continuing until deadline or a deal is achieved.

As we approach the Sunday midnight deadline, there are far too many issues to list that have yet to be resolved. The major issues that are still outstanding include the Nickel Bonus, Pensions, Temporary Recalls, Job Postings and Re-transfers.

Bargaining Committee Update - Jan 18th, 2010
The bargaining committee would like to thank all those who attended last week's strike mandate meeting/vote. The result of the vote was a 96% acceptance of giving the bargaining committee the right to call a strike if we are unable to achieve an agreement without concessions. A 99% vote to open the strike fund was also achieved. Our focus is to get an agreement prior to February 1st.

Members of Mine Mill/CAW - Local 598, Xstrata Nickel Unit, attended a series of meetings at the Palladium Ballroom at the Radisson Hotel in Sudbury, to hear an update on the progress of negotiations, and vote to give their Bargaining Committee a strike mandate and opening up their local strike fund in the event that it is needed.

Bargaining Committee Update - Jan 4th, 2010
The Company and The Union have met for a bit more than eight hours to date. We have put all of the language issues on the table in the month of December and have spent lots of time clarifying the Union's position on the issues to the Company Bargaining Team.
