Bargaining Committee Update

January 19th, 2007

The Company and the Union have met for a bit more than eight hours this week.  We have put all of the remaining language issues on the table and have spent lots of time clarifying the Union’s position of the issues remaining to the Company Bargaining Team.

We have been successful the last few days on resolving some smaller issues, but the main issues remain to be resolved.  Today on Friday, January 19th, we met late for the first time and we reaffirmed our position on the 2 major language issues of posting and vacation.

At the adjournment of the meeting, it was decided by both parties to spend this weekend to look at their positions on the remaining issues.  The talks have been scheduled to reconvene on Monday morning with the presence of the mediator.

Your Bargaining Committee is committed to reach a new Collective Agreement before the deadline, but it will not be at the expense of not settling the issues of vacation and postings.

The membership’s mandate was loud and clear and this Bargaining Committee will achieve our goal of signing a new Collective Agreement.

In Solidarity,

Your Bargaining Committee,
